My Shades of London POST MADNESS UNDERNEATH theory:
SPOILERS FOR MADNESS UNDERNEATH!!!!!!!!! IF YOU HAVE NOT READ IT, DO NOT PASS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Persephone was one of the only figures in myth who was constantly able to travel back and forth between the land of the living and the underworld. WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THE TERMINUS THAT EXPLODED AND BASICALLY CONFERRED ALL ITS PROPERTIES ONTO RORY? PERSEPHONE.
Also, Bhuvana? Totally means Earth Goddess = Demeter = Persephone’s mother who helped rescue her from the underworld.
All classical heroes journeys involve a trip to the underworld, so I think she’ll be able to travel back and forth between the lands of living and dead (maybe take on a ghost form at times? IDK, but that would be awesome, because then maybe she can make out with ghost Stephen. Priorities. I haz them.) BUT, here’s the AWESOME PART:
“The mysteries represented the myth of the abduction of Persephone from her mother Demeter by the king of the underworld Hades, in a cycle with three phases, the “descent” (loss), the “search” and the “ascent”, with the main theme the “ascent” of Persephone and the reunion with her mother”
OKAY. So “Loss” = Madness underneath (We lose Stephen).
“Search” = The Shadow Cabinets (We look for and find Stephen).
“Ascent” = Unnamed Book Four (WE FIND AND SAVE HIM AND BRING HIM THE HELL BACK TO THE WORLD OF THE LIVING.)
*evangelical heavy breathing*
One of the things I like about this is that it takes the Persephone myth and, rather than Persephone herself being lost and needing saving, she’s turned into the one with all the agency to do the saving. Basically, the whole story would be an empowerment of the Persephone figure.
And that. Is. Badass.
(On a side note, Orpheus was one of the heroes who went to the underworld to save his wife, and at the last minute he didn’t trust she was following him, turned around, and the shades hauled her back in. He was able to leave, but he didn’t get a second chance to save her. So yeah. Don’t fuck it up, Rory.)
